The Project

The Schildfabrik is a historic industrial monument located in the immediate vicinity of Lake Rotsee. The building is situated in a residential neighborhood within a special zone and serves as a distinct workplace within the context of the local community, natural surroundings, and cultural heritage. The former textile manufacturing facility is now used for a variety of purposes: among other things, it houses the cantonal offices for the protection of historical monuments and cultural property. Additionally, archaeological finds are documented, restored, and properly archived. Furthermore, it serves as a workspace and development environment for an IT service provider and a reputable architectural company.

The hall structure, with ceiling heights of up to seven meters, defines the building’s industrial character. The striking parallel roof with large-scale glazing ensures uniform natural lighting of the interior spaces. The building’s substantial volume opens up diverse possibilities for commercial, cultural, or contemporary work uses.

We have analyzed the potential for additional uses and prepared for the further development of the site. Ensuring optimal design and positioning, requires the involvement of a wide range of stakeholders and public authorities. The development process will be closely coordinated with the interests of the City of Lucerne.
